Do Something Good...

Aloha Everyone!

Saturday,  Ron and I spent the day doing something GOOD!!  Along with 200 volunteers, we participated in the 2nd annual Coastline Cleanup Day at Anahola Beach Park. The event sponsors were: Sustainable Coastlines, Kauai Surfrider and B-Rad Foundation.  The cleanup was from Donkey Beach to Papa`a Bay (which is roughly 5 miles).  There was 14,200 lbs of rubbish, marine debris, ropes and nets removed from our shores. It was a fun experience working along side men, women and kids who are passionate about keeping our island trash free.

Another one of the seals

Sunday, I went back to the beach hoping to find the seals, unfortunately  I found our pristine beach of yesterday littered with a new wave of plastic.
Stupid me didn't take a bag to collect rubbish.
The following is 138 plastic tubes known as oyster spacers that I gathered,
it was all that I could carry back to the car.

Go Do Something GOOD!!

Whaling Wall....Day 2

Bright and early Sunday morning Wyland was back at it. Today we would watch as a honu, octopus, monk seal and various reef fish would come alive.  Due to other obligations Sunday afternoon, I was only able to watch as the honu was painted.  Monday morning I was treated to a completed mural.  The whole mural is just beautiful and I am grateful that I was able to witness this work of art being created.  Hope you've enjoyed the photos.

The Making of a Whaling Wall.... Day #1

Warning...Lots of photos!!

Wyland, a world renowned marine wildlife artist has been here on Kauai for the past few days to recreate his original Whaling Wall on the old Longs Drug Building.  The original mural had suffered dry rot and needed to be replaced. Wyland offered his time and talent for free to update the wall.

I watched in awe as the wall came to life.  The famous NaPali Coast and a full moon in the back ground,  a Humpback Whale mom and calf take center stage in his newest creation.  Chances are if you've seen a whale or other marine life on a large canvas (ie: side of a building) its probably Wyland's work.

So....enjoy!!
